Thanksgiving Nutrition Alert!

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite
Holiday of the year! It is full of football, all sorts of food and getting together with family and friends. It is a great day to celebrate, it is time to give Thanks to all the great things we have in life!!! The first harvest festival and subsequent "thanksgivings" were held to thank the local natives for saving their lives and to thank God for his blessing.
Now let's talk Food! We can eat supportive meals on Thanksgiving that will keep our fitness program on track. Now, it does depend on how these foods are prepared, grandma's recipe might include some brown sugar or other secret ingredients we are not aware of?
Nice Choice (thermic supportive meal)
Turkey Breast - Lean protein
Yams - Good starchy carbs
Green Beans - Good fibrous carbs
You can have this combination 3 or 4 times during the day spread out by 2 to 3 hours in between!!!!
Things to be careful of:
Egg Nog - High in saturated fat & sugar!
(if you add alcohol increase the sugar and calories)
Gravy - Most home made gravies are high in saturated fat and refined carbs (flour)
Stuffing - Most homemade stuffing is high in sodium and refined carbs
Desserts - High in sugar and refined carbs
If you must indulge, moderation is key!!!!
Or, you can choose alternative # 2 and eat and drink what ever you feel like and as much as you want, then come to our Post Turkey Day Burn Off Class 10am the day after Thanksgiving.
Here at Fitness 21 we wish you all a very Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!!!
